As I sat at the lobby of Marriott Singapore waiting for a guest, I marvelled at their success and glamour. I started looking around the lobby the things that Marriot has in place. The 4-storey high ceiling at the lobby seems to be the success factor. The reception staff also looks like the reason. Every piece of furniture in the lobby points to the direction that makes Marriott a success.
So, what is it exactly that makes Marriott an icon? Does size really matter?
Right in front of me where I was sitting was 3 small pots of dry flowers. I glanced around and realised that every table at the lobby has that dry flowers. Now, what amazed me is not the 3 pots of dry flowers. Each small pot has a label to indicate the name of the flower. And I noticed that because of the size of the small pot, the font size they use in labellingthe flowers has to be fine too. It looks like a 12-point size font they have used. That’s what amazed me.
In the midst of towering infrastructures in the lobby, such a fine font to label the flower gives me a sense of warmth. It is to such extent that Marriott pays attention to details and fine stuff. Who would imagine that a 12-point size font for the flower label can play an important role in the entire image and feeling to the guests. Yes, the tall supporting columns are the one supporting the building, but it’s the fine little things that make the columns look good.
Size does matter - perfectly fine at Marriott.
